Ingredients
  • Finger millet flour/ragi flour – 1 cup
  • Water – ¼ cup
  • Salt – ¼ teaspoon
  • Ghee -1 teaspoon
  • Fresh grated coconut – about ¼ cup
Instructions
  1. Take ragi flour in a white cotton cloth, wrap it and steam for 10 minutes (this step is completely optional)
  2. In a bowl, take the steamed ragi flour or directly the raw flour. Add salt and ghee and mix well
  3. Sprinkle water a little by little and rub the flour well with your fingers so that no lumps are formed. The flour should be in crumbled texture. Do not add too much water
  4. Cover the flour mixture for 10 minutes
  5. Use a puttu maker to easily cook this puttu. Layer the puttu kutti first with a little grated coconut. Then above the coconut layer add two fistful of flour mixture. Then again add grated coconut followed by puttu flour and finally the top layer again with grated coconut
  6. Heat water in a puttu maker or steamer or idli cooker and place the puttu kutti on it. Steam the flour for 15 minutes
  7. When the puttu is fully cooked, switch off the stove
  8. Remove the puttu kutti from the pot and push the puttu to a plate using a wooden ladle
  9. Serve along with sugar/jaggery banana or any gravy of your choice. Kadala curry makes a perfect combo
