Steamed Modak or Ukadiche Modak

- Rice flour - 1 cup
- Jaggery - ¾ cup
- Coconut - 1 cup
- Elaichi powder – a pinch
- Water - for kneading the dough
- Oil - as needed
- Salt - to taste
- Heat a pan with oil or ghee. Add coconut, jaggery and mix well on low flame.
- Add in cardamom powder.
- Let the jaggery melt and keep stirring till the mixture turns dry. Let it cool down
- Boil water in a pan and add the rice flour. Let the rice flour absorb all the water. Switch off the flame.
- Grease oil on your hands and knead the dough soft without any lumps. You can also add water to moisturize the dough if its dry.
- The dough should be soft without any lumps
- Make small balls out of the dough and flatten it. Place the filling in the centre
- Using the modak mould or using your fingers give shape to the modak
- Steam these modaks for 10 to 15 minutes on a low flame.
