As I had mentioned here , I exclusively breastfed my baby until she was six months old. I started with liquids, purées, mashed foods; progressed to semi solids and now at her 11 months , she has solid foods like small pieces of chappati, eggs etc.

Though I resumed my job when she was 3 and a half months old, I was determined to give her breast milk only ! NO Other milk, not even in porridges or purees . When she reached the second week of eleventh month, I decided to start weaning as she kept waking up for frequent night feeds and sleeplessness started affecting my health.
I went to her paediatrician , and sought his help. He asked me to start weaning for the daytime first, and then night.
As per him, buffalo milk diluted with cooled boiled water in the ration of 1:4 could be given to her instead of BM. Babies need whole fat milk , not toned / lower fat varieties as they require higher calories and fat for the initial years of their growth and development .
Buffalo milk is rich in Vitamin A, has higher protein efficiency and more iron, calcium and phosphorous. Buffalo milk should be fresh and possibly bought from tabela (dairy farm). I started getting fresh milk in the morning from a near by tabela where the buffaloes are mainly grass-fed. Now I use buffalo milk in her milk shakes, porridges and even /as her main drink.

Cow’s milk should not be introduced as baby’s main drink until one year as it could trigger allergy in babies. If your baby is colic , better to avoid using cow’s milk in baby foods too until he/she is 1 year old.
While travelling with baby , you can make use of the tetra pack cow’s milk / buffalo milk as its safe, handy and could be used w/o boiling.
How about the milk for your baby? Do share with us.

Hi Sangeetha
My Kid is five years old and we have recently switched to Buffalo Milk. After using this milk, my kid had vomitings.. Is this related ?
Vebkat, A 5 year old cant have allergy to buffalo milk. Are you sure its the buffalo milk that’s causing the vomiting? If yes stop it for a week and start cow’s milk.
Hi Sangeetha,
my son is 7 month old now and my mother in law is insisting to introduce buffalo milk to him…. is it safe???… and if I give him tell me how to dilute it????….. plzz help
Aqsa,
Are you breastfeeding him or is he on formula?
m giving him formula for three times in day n other times i breastfeed him… but my mother in law is not satisfy with formula she thinks that fresh milk is better feeding rather than formula so she wants to replace formula with buffalo milk as it is freshly available here…
Aqsa,
A baby until 1 year doesn’t require any other milk like cows or buffalo milk. Tell your mother in law this. A baby’s tummy is not matured enough to accept cows milk or buffalo milk until one year as the intolerance leads to diarrhea, anemia , vitamin deficiency and many more to quote. Hey Sangeetha,
I am currently in the in the phase of trying to wean my 1.5 yr old son. Unfortunately we don’t have Buffalo milk available here. I used to bottle feed him cows milk and he used to drink it at least once or twice a day… But then now he has cold and cough and was advised by many that cows milk is not to be given during cold. Is it true?
I now give him pediasure and he doesn’t like it much..I have to keep nagging him to drink..
Bilna,
Wrote tday’s post on variety milk for toddlers after reading your post. Hope its helpful for you 🙂
You can give cow’s milk irrespective of season.
i gave my 1.5 yrs boy buffalo milk. pls suggest me that whole toned milk means without boiling milk or boiling it
